To perform at our best in the upcoming new year, we need to give ourselves time to recharge at the end of this year. As creatives we spend so much time being, well, creative. But that can’t be our only reality. We also need to make one of our priorities relaxing and having fun! And what better time than during the holidays to do just that?
So to help you turn off this holiday, I’m sharing some fun ideas to help you reset and enter 2019 recharged:
What are some things you’d like to try that have nothing to do with your job? Hip Hop dance class? Guitar lessons? Taking a cooking class? Kayaking? Going to a wine dinner? Volunteering at an animal shelter? Make a list of at least 10 things that you think would be fun just to try. Commit to doing one this upcoming holiday season.
Move away from your devices and reconnect to your life. How long can you go without touching your phone? Or computer? How can I help go on a digital detox? That list of 10 things you think would be fun? Get started on those and make a commitment to be fully present, and unplugged, when doing them.
Silence is golden when it comes to recharging. In any 1 of those 10 things you listed, in addition to unplugging and being device free, choose 1 or 2 where you can just enjoy the silence too. Create space in your brain to allow new creativity to start flowing.
As you take the time off this holiday season, make sure you actually take the time to turn off — away from work and your daily grind. We’ll enter the New Year recharged and with space in your mind and soul to tackle new creative endeavours with even more vigor.
And with that in mind, I am signing off! So this is the last episode of 2018 for me. I will see you in the New Year where I’ll tackle business planning and goal setting all January long!
