Black and Gold Wedding Invitations

Dedra and I met at TAWP’s Wedding Show last year at Bricks & Brass. She admitted she’d been following my work on Instagram for awhile. When I tell you how flattering and humbling that is to hear, I truly mean it. And then, when she said she wanted black and gold wedding invitations for their black tie wedding, I couldn’t wait to get started on their design!

I created more black wedding invitations last year than I have in any previous year. And I photographed a wedding for which the bride wore a black dress (check it out here!). I love that brides and couples are willing to be more creative with their weddings! Let’s see your personalities shine through! And if that means you prefer dark and moody, over light and airy – then I say, heck yes! 

Gold foil is a highly requested detail many of my custom wedding invitation clients ask about. And I always include two options in estimates: one with actual gold foil (which is four times as expensive) and one with a gold foil look. As someone with champagne tastes but a beer budget, I know the struggle is real. So for Dedra and Jameric’s black and gold wedding invitations, we decided the gold foil look was better suited for their needs.

Black Tie Wedding Invitations

Dedra did a great job supplying me with examples of exactly what she was looking for. I love when couples know exactly what they want. It makes it easier for me to get their custom wedding invitation design perfect almost right away. We tried a couple of designs for the RSVP card and once she mentioned her linens would have black and white stripes, we decided to incorporate that into the design. 

I also hand addressed their envelopes in gold calligraphy ink. I wish I’d photographed the final product! But trust me when I say the gold ink popped! It tied this entire suite together. And gave the metallic gold shimmer she desired without breaking the bank.
